Petra Preschool

More Info:

The vision for Petra Preschool was birthed by a local family whose foster child was not allowed to attend their biological children’s preschool, and found that there was a need for an inclusive, faith based preschool in the Austin area. Petra Preschool was created to meet this need as a quality early childhood education program for low-income and foster families by increasing opportunities for all to have access to subsidized child care spots. All children will be supported and guided through meaningful learning opportunities and developmentally appropriate classroom experiences. All staff, including a part time social worker, will be trained on trauma informed care to meet the needs of children who have experienced abuse, neglect and trauma. We believe creating a nurturing and safe environment for vulnerable children will help them grow and develop socially, emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually. The Trust Based Relational Intervention (trauma informed care) approach will benefit children from every background.

  • “We need people that are willing to go the extra mile. Just having someone that we can call and talk to when we are having a bad day or someone just to have as an emergency contact.”

  • “The growth that has happened in the six weeks we've had the kids is huge. It motivates us to keep going.”

  • “…fostering is about more than kids.  It's about caring for the biological family and having compassion for their circumstances.”

  • “It's hard work but immensely rewarding. Fostering is the best thing I'm ever going to do in my life.”
