DePelchin Children's Center- Austin

More Info:

DePelchin Children’s Center believes every child deserves a safe and loving home. Every day in the State of Texas, children are removed from their birth families because of abuse, neglect or abandonment and desperately need the care of a loving family.

DePelchin partners with couples and individuals through its foster care program who can provide temporary care for children until they can return home safely. While some children are able to be reunited with their birth families, there are many children who are unable to be reunited and are ‘legally free’ for adoption. Through its adoption program, DePelchin supports couples and individuals wanting to adopt children who are in the care of Child Protective Services and need a loving forever family.

At DePelchin, we are also committed to helping kinship caregivers provide the best care for their families so that children can stay connected with biological family even when they cannot live with their birth parents. One way we do this is by guiding kinship caregivers along the path to becoming a kinship foster family so that they will qualify to receive the therapeutic and financial support they need to care for the children in their home.

DePelchin understands that the commitment to foster and adopt a child comes with great rewards — and great challenges. That’s why DePelchin supports its families every step of the way with a wide range of services, including:

– Specialized trauma-informed training
– 24-hour on-call crisis intervention
– Peer support and mentoring
– Resources for children’s activities
– Referral and retention bonus

  • “…fostering is about more than kids.  It's about caring for the biological family and having compassion for their circumstances.”

  • “We need people that are willing to go the extra mile. Just having someone that we can call and talk to when we are having a bad day or someone just to have as an emergency contact.”

  • “The growth that has happened in the six weeks we've had the kids is huge. It motivates us to keep going.”

  • “It's hard work but immensely rewarding. Fostering is the best thing I'm ever going to do in my life.”
